It is with profound sadness that we share that we walked our sweet Lola girl to the Rainbow Bridge on August 5th.
Our “show girl” was born at Four B Farms on March 14 (2017), just two days shy of her human dad’s birthday. She was a daddy’s girl from the very beginning and was rarely more than a couple of feet away from him. If he was home, that’s exactly where Lola wanted to be.
Lola joined our family as the precocious little sister to Stormy and later got a taste of her own puppy antics when we welcomed Ruby into our pack. Patient, gentle, and loving, Lola became the big sister Ruby needed, teaching her the ropes with the same quiet grace that defined her entire life.
Her arch enemies were the yard squirrels. They seemed to delight in teasing her, and whenever they gave her the chance, she would give them the chase of a lifetime all the way to the nearest tree. She never gave up hope that one day she’d outsmart them.
Lola was an avid swimmer and never passed up an opportunity to get in the water. Unlike many dogs, she preferred to ease herself in, happily walking through the shallows before beginning her swim.
Winter brought some of her greatest joys. She loved burying her face in fresh snow, stretching out to cool off, and taking the occasional crunchy bite of freshly fallen snow. She also loved running through the woods with her dad, putting her incredible nose to work during scent adventures. Those quiet walks together were some of her happiest moments.
Lola had a special love for pizza crusts, and as she got older, she became remarkably skilled at counter surfing whenever something delicious was left within reach.
She was also known as the ultimate treat hunter. She would casually head outside as if she simply needing a bathroom break, then quietly make her way to the neighbor’s porch where she would sit politely, patiently waiting for a treat. Before fully committing to her mission, she’d always glance back to see if her parents were watching. If they weren’t, she confidently continued on, certain another snack awaited her.
Lola never met a stranger. She loved everyone she encountered and had the sweetest, most laid-back personality. Whether you had known her for years or had just met her, she greeted you with the same gentle heart and wagging tail. And if she didn’t get her way—or thought you weren’t responding quickly enough—she wasn’t afraid to “talk back” until she had your attention.
Every night, Lola faithfully took on the role of protector. While her family slept, she quietly made her rounds, checking on each of her humans before settling back down. It was her way of making sure everyone she loved was safe.
Lola wasn’t just our dog—she was family. She was our adventure buddy, our shadow, photo bomber, protector, our source of laughter, and our constant companion through every season of life. She taught us unconditional love, unwavering loyalty, and how to find joy in life’s simplest moments: a swim on a warm summer day, a walk through the woods, the first snowfall of winter, or sharing a pizza crust with the people she loved.
The void she leaves behind is immeasurable, but so is the love and happiness she gave us over the years. We know the pain of saying goodbye is so deep because the love we shared was even greater.
There are dogs who come into our lives and leave paw prints on our hearts. Then there are the once-in-a-lifetime dogs—the ones who become part of who you are. Lola was that dog. She made ordinary days extraordinary simply by being there. Her love was constant, her loyalty unwavering, and her gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Run free, sweet Lola. Chase every squirrel, swim in every lake, roam every trail, bury your nose in fresh snow, and enjoy all the pizza crusts your heart desires. Thank you for every tail wag, every adventure, every cuddle, every laugh, and every memory.
Losing a once-in-a-lifetime dog leaves a silence that feels too big, too deep, and too unfair. But our hearts are forever better because they belonged to you. You truly were a once-in-a-lifetime dog, and you will be loved, cherished, and missed for the rest of our lives.
Until we meet again, our beautiful “show girl.” Nine years with you could never have been enough, but as Ralph Waldo Emerson wisely said, “It’s not the length of life, but the depth of life.” Your life was filled with love, loyalty, adventure, and joy, and ours is richer because we were lucky enough to share it with you.
