Percy Dog Mullins was born in Sturgeon Bay on May 25, 2015, and was known to his littermates as Brutus because he was almost twice the size of the other puppies!
On July 19, 2015, he found his forever home in Green Bay with his Mom, Dad, and Sister, along with his furry big brother, LB, and his two kitty brothers, Tucker and TJ. He was renamed Percious, aka Percy, and a few years later, he took on the name Percy Dog Mullins following an incident at Walgreens!
Percy fit right into our chaotic and crazy life.
Puppy Percy loved stealing toys and treats from his big brother, teasing his kitty brothers, tormenting his human sister, and leaving a trail of crumbs behind him. His love for snacks quickly became legendary.
He discovered his love for fashion at a young age and, over the years, acquired quite the wardrobe of everyday outfits, costumes, and hats. He modeled frequently—even modeling for a calendar—and insisted that all payments be made in the form of treats.
Percy also discovered his love for camping by joining Dad on the BBQ circuit as the Crackhouse BBQ Mascot, while proudly serving as Dad’s official quality-control inspector during test cooks. According to Percy, Dad’s BBQ was always 1st Place BBQ!
In his younger years, Percy was Mom’s carpool buddy on trips to Oshkosh. He even managed to get her out of a speeding ticket!
We can’t forget Percy’s legendary birthday parties, where there was always plenty of family, friends, food, and cake.
Then there was the year it was Great to be Eight. Percy walked into the doggie bar for his birthday party when, before he could blink, some young pup came at him with a 1-2-3 to the head! Percy ended up with a fat lip and teeth marks on his ear. He decided he had had enough and needed to leave early—he was a little overwhelmed after being in his first bar fight and all!
And then there was the time Percy decided to bail out of the truck and run into Piggly Wiggly, with Mom and Dad chasing him through the parking lot and right through the automatic doors. They finally found him sitting in the banana area, happily being petted by a very nice lady. Of course, Percy was perfectly content with his decision.
As he got older, Percy enjoyed staying closer to home. Some days, he could be found at TailWaggers in Bellevue, where he loved spending the day hanging out with his furry and human buddies and, of course, enjoying his daily treat. Other days, his legendary snores could be heard throughout the office where Mom worked.
As it became harder for him to get in and out of the car, Percy started staying home and spending more time with Grandpa Steve. They enjoyed their morning breakfasts on the patio and spent their days doing yard work and contemplating life together.
After retiring from the BBQ circuit, Percy loved spending long weekends camping at the Reis family farm—one of his most favorite places. He loved all the activities and especially the yearly pig roast, where snacks could be found everywhere!
And, of course, there was usually a stop at Scooter’s for a Pup Cup on the way to the camper—and maybe even another stop for one on Sunday before heading home.
Every night, after his afternoon snack, dinner, and his medicine hot dog, it was time to snuggle on the couch with Mom or Dad. Then came bedtime, when Percy would rest his head against Sister’s door. Once he started snoring, the vibrations would wake Sister up! He loved when she would reach down to pat his head and give him a little boop on the nose.
Percy had a way of making himself part of every moment, every adventure, and every day.
He was our mascot, our carpool buddy, our quality-control inspector, our fashion model, our camping buddy, our professional snorer, and—most importantly—our family.
Our house is too quiet, and our hearts are broken. We miss our Percy Dog Mullins more than words can say.
He gave us 11 years of unwavering, unconditional love, asking for nothing in return except, of course, a treat or two.
Okay… probably three.
Thank you for 11 amazing years, my little Mr. Poop Monster.
Thank you for the laughter, the adventures, the snuggles, the snores, the crumbs, the costumes, the Pup Cups, and all the memories that we will carry with us forever.
You were so much more than a dog. You were woven into the fabric of our family and into the story of our lives. You were there for the ordinary days that became special simply because you were part of them, and for the adventures we will never forget.
There will never be another Percy.
We will love you and miss you until we meet again someday.
We love you, Mr. Percy Dog Mullins. ❤️🐾
